Originally from Morocco, Samad’s culinary journey began with his education in Italy before he ventured to the United States to pursue a degree in political science. With fluency in five languages and a deep-rooted love for Italian cuisine, Samad’s diverse background laid the foundation for his passion.

In 2009, Samad introduced Raleigh to the flavors of Morocco with Babylon Restaurant, a vibrant hotspot that quickly became a local favorite. Evolving with the city’s tastes, he transformed Babylon into Mulino Italian Kitchen & Bar, a testament to his adaptability and creative vision. From there, Samad’s passion for historic preservation led him to breathe new life into the iconic space of Dawson Street’s Melrose Knitting Mill–a popular wedding venue.

Beyond his culinary endeavors, Samad is dedicated to giving back to the community. Each November, he hosts the Mulino Turkey Ball, a charitable event that provides Thanksgiving turkeys to local families in need. His commitment to philanthropy reflects his belief in using food as a force for good.

Looking ahead, Samad’s latest venture, La Terrazza, promises to captivate diners with its southern Italian and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.
